En visite dans un pays africain, il se lie d'amitié avec des résistants et y apprend une douloureuse leçon quant aux valeurs de vérité et de justice. Revenu aux États Unis, il décide d'embrasser son héritage extraterrestre et de défendre les plus faibles sous le costume de Superman. Son opposition à l'homme d'affaires Lex Luthor va lui révéler les secrets de ses origines mais également mettre en jeu la confiance des habitants de Metropolis. | Encore un reboot du récit des origines de Superman, sa jeunesse à Smallville, ses débuts à Metropolis, sa première confrontation avec Lex Luthor... Des reboots, j'en ai lus et vus un certain nombre je dois dire. Mais celui-ci est chouette car elle prend quelques libertés bien appréciables, tout en restant fidèle à l'esprit de la série.
Qu'est-ce qui diffère dans cette histoire ?
Eh bien, deux choses essentiellement.
Tout d'abord, l'arrivée de Superman à Metropolis a lieu de nos jours et le contexte sociologique de la société américaine des années 2000, notamment son cynisme et sa méfiance de l'inconnu/étranger, sont intelligemment mis en scène et font partie des défis que Superman, terrien de culture mais alien d'origine, va devoir surmonter.
Ensuite, le Superman en question est nettement moins naïf et lisse qu'il a pu être représenté ailleurs, notamment dans les films le mettant en scène. Il réfléchit à sa position, à son rôle de justicier, à la façon complexe dont il doit s'y prendre pour être accepté et non pas craint, à ce qu'il doit faire pour remplir son rôle dans la société moderne.
Le scénario est dense et très bien mené. L'histoire tient la route et les personnages sont bons.
Le graphisme quant à lui est moderne et appréciable, même si je n'en suis pas particulièrement fan.
Bref, c'est un très bon récit de Superman, un que je conseillerais sans hésiter, même s'il s'agit ''encore'' de raconter les débuts du super-héros. |
