Julien searches deMedici’s office. DeMedici scrawled the words “REX MUNDI” in blood on his desk before he died. A ring and a key are clenched in the corpse’s fist.
The Inquisition arrives on the scene and Julien is forced to flee through the secret passage to the sewer temple. There he realizes the temple might be dedicated to John the Baptist.
Suspecting a golem might have killed deMedici, Julien returns to Rabbi Maiselles for advice. The only way to stop a golem, Julien learns, is to scratch out the Hebew word for “LIFE”, which will be carved somewhere on the creature’s head.
